Hi - this is my first Mumsnet post...Had my little one by C section 13 days ago - she's great. Want to breast feed and have perservered through marathon feeding sessions, sore nipples and little support from my midwives ! Is it normal for feeds to vary in length - sometimes she feeds for 15 mins sometimes for an hour and a half. Should I be trying to get her into a routine for feeding and particularly bed time as at the moment I am feeding on demand and just getting through!

Is the pain when your milk let's down? I used to get excruciating let down pains when I had DD - but they do pass. It's caused by high prolactin levels. My boobs would throb and I was always surprised they weren't glowing like nuclear waste in the Simpsons!

If you can keep going and fix any latch problems, you may just find it gets spontaneously better - I certainly did, not sure I changed anything but just waited a few weeks.

Oh and DD fed round the clock for hours at a time - anything is normal in babies in under six weeks!

that's true, those pains have stopped for me in the last couple of weeks but at the beginning i'd be like this and stamping my feet on the ground every time.

my pal, who's a doc, used to time her c/s painkillers to coincide with feeds, so painful was her letdown. bf for 20 mos in the end.
