Weaning with solids and breastfeeding - experiences please!

My DS is 4 months old and currently exclusively breastfed. I don't intend to start solids for a while yet, but I was wondering what experiences people had of weaning onto solids with breastfeeding. I'd particularly like to know how much I would expect to be breastfeeding after about 6 weeks of starting some solids (obv just a bit of baby rice to start with and taking it from there with the guiding hand of Annabel Karmel).

I really struggled to get breastfeeding going but I soooo determined but now I'm already starting to feel like I want my body back a bit - DS won't take a bottle but I am trying him with a cup.

So, what experiences and advice do people have?! Thanks in advance!

Hi, My DD was exclusively breastfed and I started her on solids at five and a half months. Started with baby rice mixed with EBM then gradually mixed in different veggies like sweet potato, carrot etc. I followed Annabel's first tastes advice and found it really helpful as must admit my culinary imagination leaves a lot to be desired!
As for cutting down feeds she has been on solid meals 3 times a day since she was 6 months ( 8 weeks), she wasnt really interested in a mid morning feed from about that time and now only ocassionally has a mid afternoon feed so is now feeding 2 times a day and more often than not in the middle of the night ( joy)
My DD also is not keen on bottles and will take a wee bit out of a cup - think perserverence is key!

Hi, DD is 7 months and started solids a month ago. We are doing BLW and so she is only slowly starting to actually eat what I give her, rather than just play with it/drop it. She is still having about the same BFs during the day at the moment. She is having less at night (only 2 or 3) but this is more to do with me reducing these by cuddling her back to sleep rather than feeding. However it is early days. I would expect it might take a while for them to start dropping feeds as they eat so little to start with, but it will soon build up.

We have been using a doidy cup for water. you could try one of those. We have had it a few days and although DD still tips most of it over herself, she is getting the hang of it.
