My DD, 6 wks is exclusively bf and until 2 days ago has been quite happy to feed every 4 hours during the day, but has wanted to feed constanttly between 7pm and 9pm. The last 2 days, she has again wanted to feed constantly between 7p and 9pm ish, but has also wanted to feed constantly during the day, only settling for a sleep at 3pm having got up at 9am. She is extremely distressed if I try to take her off. It doesn't seem to be wind or nappy as I have tried all of that.
Could she be having a growth spurt and be trying to increase my supply, could I not be producing enough milk for her, is she just comfort sucking ????? What is going on ?
I also have a DD 2yrs who is now getting quite jealous these past couple of days, so she's being a pain to look after coupled with my pemanent fixture to my breast, my nipples are feeling worn out (dayglow pink!) and I'd love to start expressing a bit so I can let DH do the odd feed in the evenings.

Any advice, or do I just need to stop whinging and get on with it ?!?!

growth spurt I'd wager

I was told it was demand and supply so it is very unlikely that you won't have enough milk for her.

IMHO it is a bit early for bottles as it may upset baby, and with your older child maybe you could use the time to read to her or watch tv with her while you feed.

It will soon pass.

DD was exactly the same and it is really hard work, particularly at that time of the day when you are shattered with a toddler. It doesn't last for ever but I feel your pain FWIW!

Does sound like a growth spurt to me. Can you get a few cheap toys or books for your older child that are special for feeding time? Might ease jealousy if she has something new to play with. Hang in there though and keep on feeding, am sure you will have enough milk and it will pass in a few days.

Sorry, only just managed to log back on (had to sort tea, wash and clear up, get toddler into bed etc.... !).
Still typing 1-handed as DD STILL latched on tightly .
Thanks for your replies, I just hope my nipples and my patience last as long as this "PHASE" .

my boy does this every day! just got to put up with it i suppose....he will either have the morning or the afternoon when he's chilled but will have a long period of feeding constantly every day.

@ every 4 hours! DS feeds nearly constantly from about 5 am until 1/2pm, then has a few hours kip, then is on and off most the evening until 10pm, where he sleeps for sometimes up to 6 hours, sometimes snacks... IME just get the comp. set up, the remote and sit and take advantage of it!

Can you get a sling to feed in? I used the Kari me when DD was cluster feeding and it made me a lot more mobile
