i've expressed my milk for nearly 3 months for my premature 2 lb boy
and about a month ago started b feeding him
he's been home a couple of weeks now and my milk is drying up
i've just expressed for 40 mins and only got 20 mls
i've been expressing a little as really sore but mainly breastfeeding
i am desperate to keep going but i know he is really hungry
what can i do to up my supply?
i really don't want to give him formula but the midwive is saying we should!!

Lou, how are you doing?

lou222 · 16/10/2008 21:07

sorry for not posting just no time between expressing, feeding etc
i've been getting lots of help
am on and off the breast shields
got a blood blister today - ouch!!
but realise it's a poor latch that's my main problem
he's been going 3 hours at nights so i feel loads better as before was 1 - 2 hours and no more
am on domperone for my milk supply
oh and he has colic!!
caved in and gave him formula once but am now concentrating on expressing enough so that i don't have to
he didnt sleep for 6 hours after the formula so really didnt suit him
thanks again for everyones help mumsnet is a godsend

Thank you so much for the update, hope this doesn't sound funny but have been thinking of you and hoping you and youd ds are doing ok. REALLY glad you are making some progress - when dd started going 3 hrs I was amazed at the difference a tiny bit more sleep can make. Glad to hear that MN has been of help, happiest of all that it seems like you are getting some decent support in real life.

Hugs to you and your son
