It only took me 7 months to pluck up the courage .
And guess what? It was fine. Nobody batted an eyelid! I wish I'd have had the courage sooner, I would have avoided having to feed in smelly old toilets!

Good for you!! It's really hard at first but does get easier and gets a lot less attention than a crying baby!!

Congratulations!! And you never know, maybe there was another woman there who thought, "maybe I could do that too!"

MsHighwater · 24/09/2008 22:08

Well done!

cafebistro · 24/09/2008 22:09

Thanks! I wasnt planning to but was out with a friend and said I was off to the toilets to feed DD. She looked at me like I was mad and asked why I didnt just feed her here?
So I did!

Yay! That's great Much nicer than smelly toilets I'm sure...

MrsThierryHenry · 24/09/2008 22:13

Well done! I used to wear/ carry big scarves around with me all the time so I could cover up and keep me baps to meself. So it never occurred to me that I might need courage to bf in public, I just did it. But I admire you for finally doing it after 7 months of probably convincing yourself that you couldn't. Onwards and upwards! (if only my baps had stayed even vaguely 'upwards' after bfing !!)

thisisyesterday · 24/09/2008 22:15

callmeovercautious · 24/09/2008 22:19

Well DOne cafe Bistro You now have a freedom you have never known before.

And well done for BFing so long in the closet (water closet that is ) many people give up much sooner rather than BF in public.

moondog · 24/09/2008 23:03

Brilliant.
It's a huge psychological barrier for saome women yet as you say, 99.9% of population couldn't give two hoots!

Poor you, 7 mnoths in purdah!

mumnosbest · 24/09/2008 23:11

MrsThierryHenry · 24/09/2008 23:36

Two hoots, or two hooters, moondog?

I'm so sorry. It's late. I'm tired. I must to bed. Pronto.

skidoodle · 24/09/2008 23:53

hurray!

LittlePushka · 25/09/2008 00:08

Oh well done!

Please just let me tell you this:

I proudly BF both DS for a time. With each one I was ready to let anybody who took a pop have it with both barrels (I even had an undoubtedly award winning monologue all lined up)...

BUT

the ONLY comment I ever got was from a table of four very old pensioners (2 men and 2 ladies). I was being particularly discreet as I have a very healthy respect for our oldies,...but as I left the cafe one of the ladies stopped me to say that they all agreed how nice it was to see a baby being so fed.

How lovely?

So just think, next time you do it, there WILL be a sea of passers-by who think "Go girl - you are amazing!"

(PS Everyone, I am not in any way anti bottles

cafebistro · 25/09/2008 09:25

Thanks everyone for votes of confidence!
I was very discreet and sat at the back of the cafe in the corner so people wouldnt be walking past. I told my DP when I got home and he said "Oh." .
So he burst my bubble a bit but I knew my mnetters wouldnt let me down.

noolia · 25/09/2008 09:33

Well done! I don't think most men can understand why it is scary to bf in public for the first time. Did he know it was a worry for you?
