I am no expert - and had shooting pains in my breast which just went away - but my friend has quite a rare condition which causes extreme pain and a whitening of the nipple, almost to transparency. It is called something LIKE Vasculitis.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be on, but it responded to treatment although didn't completely go. If you're interested I'll give my friend a call later and get a more accurate name.

It sounds like you got thrush. Its quite common after the mother or baby has anti biotics. The problem with anti biotics is that they destroy the good bateria as well as the bad. With the balance messed up it puts you at high risk of thrush.

You need to go to your GP and get treatment for you and your child. Usually the mother is prescribe oral capulules, drops for the baby and gel for the breasts. Dackartin (sp) gel is good.

If the mother and baby aren't both treated then you will just reinfect each other.

Does it feel like your nipples have cracked glass in them especially when lo latches on. Sometimes babies suffer really bad nappy rash when the mother and baby have thrush.

Congratulations on your baby

It sounds as though it could be vasospasm/nipple blanching or reynauld's of the nipple, which can be the result of problems with latch and positioning.

thrush pains are typically towards the end of a feed and afterwards rather than as she is sucking.

Is your positioning and her latch absolutely spot on? sometimes a very small change in where she is lying in relation to you before you latch her on can make all the difference. this can often happen after the first few weeks as the baby gets bigger, but you still have them in the same position relative to you so to speak so they have to crane their neck a little to latch causing you discomfort.

Try moving her body such that her head is less into your armpit iyswim.
