I have to go back to work in about 6 weeks time. full time because we need to get approval for a mortgage, long story but we live in aus and need to buy a home. Im a nurse and we need me to be working for 12 months to get residency and three of these full time for mortgage. DS is 41/2 months and he currently wont entertain a bottle. he will however take formula if it is spoon fed.. this seems to be fun im sure he wants some food because he is really interested in what i eat and likes to play eating. however i would like to continue bf around work so night feeds and morning evening, will my body adjust to this or will i have to express during the day? with dd i just substituted some feeds for formular and slowly she went over to that with no problem and i managed to give her nigt feeds. but not sure how i will go with slightly more bf? any ideas?

I went back to work when ds was 5 months - after taking a bottle of expressed every few days he suddenly refused at 4 and a half months (panic stations!) and refused a bottle of any kind pretty much for ever. I posted on here in a panic at the time. I expressed at work at lunchtime (was nigh on impossible as a teacher!) then eventually gave up on that too, as he wouldn't drink more than a sip. He would drink small sips of water, bf before 8a.m. and again at 4, then through the evening and much of the night. It's called reverse cycling, I believe. I co-slept, so that I wasn't really awake much of the time I was feeding him and I loved the closeness it gave us despite me being a working mum again.

The downside, and I suppose this may have happened anyway, is that he still feeds from about 5 till 7 at 2.9 months and sometimes from about 3 till 7. He still has a bedtime feed and I can't conceive of a time when he won't breastfeed at the mo - this isnlt so great now, I had hoped he would sleep through.

I am sure it is possible to do the reverse cycling and end up with a baby who sleeps through when they no longer need it though. Hopefully someone else will be alng with a success story soon!

Think Tiktok kindly helped me out at the time by telling me my baby would be okay without breastmilk between 8 and 4 and would take what he needed (a lot!) the rest of the time.

Thak you.. feel much better. dd has decoded ... odd baby .. that he really likes baby rice, quite gross but i let him finger feed it he doest get much but will at least give him a full feeling if he really continues to refuse a bottle. Im hoping to work long das so will have to leav home at 5 15 and wil be back about 7pm. that way i only have to do 3 days ish a week. and plenty of time at home. will have to see. thanks for the info tho!
