Latest BF advice?

So what's the latest BF advice? It used to be 10 minutes on either side... then 25 minutes on 1 side per feed... Or 20 minutes on 1 and 10-15 on the other...

My LO must feed really quickly or I am doing something wrong. I offer both boobs at every feed and she comes off each one after less than 10 minutes and wont take anymore even after burping etc... Is she just a quick eater?

I'm worried about her not getting enough hind milk... Is the hind milk only coming in after 15 minutes a myth?

AFAIK there's never been any stipulation about times at all. Each baby will feed at a different rate, and want a different amount of milk.

As long as your dd is coming off happy and having plenty of wet nappies then she's getting enough.

The idea of separate "hind milk" and "fore milk" is a myth (the composition of milk changes gradually over the course of a feed) -- tiktok has a very good discussion on this here.

And there's no advice to do so long on one side, so long on the other at the moment. Pop them on one side until they're done, then the other side until they're done.

How old is your baby?

Thanks. I just worry she's not getting enough but I know logically she'd keep at it if she was hungry.

Why do people spread these lies about BF?

@ PortAndLemon - She's 11 weeks. It's only been in the last couple of weeks that she's been so speedy... But her latch has got a lot better in that time.

Becky, it's a myth and a really rubbish one, at that.

Thanks Tiktok
