Gah! Ulrika spouting off in today's Evening Standard

Yes, it's in response to Kate Garraway on cross-nursing/wet-nursing. The bit I love (not) is her statement that formula is the "time-honoured", "modern" alternative. As if wet nursing was something newly invented by flaky Californians?

I do respect her opinion but wish she would get her facts straight

I would say, after reading this thread, that a couple of the comments were from MN. Even the bit about curry and asian women!! Mine wasn't though

suey2 · 27/08/2008 16:29

scottishmummy it HAS to be butterscotch, surely?

Has anyone noticed that UJ's boobs are incredibly low-slung? I ahve always been a bit obsessed. Would not normally post something that personal, but i feel she deserves it.

When is this programme on?

suey2 · 27/08/2008 16:31

oo and wasn't there something really recently about the benefits of eating a hugely varied diet? Quite apart from having a much less fussy eater afterwards?

lizzytee · 27/08/2008 16:55

September 9 on c4, allegedly

Apologies to SPB - i nicked your incredibly good point about something not being "time-honoured" and "modern"!!

princessglitter · 27/08/2008 20:55

Oh dear, didn't realise the chicken tikka masala I ate today would be diverted to my breasts en route to my stomach.

NutterlyUts · 27/08/2008 20:55

Have I missed Kate's program?

thisisyesterday · 27/08/2008 21:02

jeez I bloody hate when non-celebrities go in papers spouting off about subjects they clearly know fuck-all about.

people are going to read that crap and think "hmm yes, must be true, she's famous"

it makes me SO

tissy · 27/08/2008 21:17

much as I agree with most of the comments, the last one was a bit bitchy. hope jc isn't a Mumsnetter.

suey2 · 27/08/2008 21:17

agree thisisyesterday- why does this woman have a voice? She was a pretty weather girl once and had sex with some famous men. About time she was put out to pasture methinks

BouncingTurtle · 27/08/2008 21:24

I bothered reading half of it, what a load of tripe.
Glad to see lots of comments putting facts straight.

earlyriser · 27/08/2008 21:27

Not trying to back Ulrike up by any means but i really did have to give up loads of foods when bfing ds, he would be sick if i so much as sniffed at chocolate, orange juice, coffee, spicy food (oooh and i love my chillis) and loads of other stuff. I was gutted! but it worked and if i ate the offending item after abstinence (because there is only so long a girl can go without chocoate) then sure enough he'd be sick again. #
The Kate Garraway article was really good btw- made lots of valid points, when's the prog on?

thisisyesterday · 27/08/2008 21:31

oh earlyriser I agree, and it's totally possible she may have had the same experience.

what is annoying is that that isn't how she portrays it. she makes it sound like everyone will have to do that because of how it all goes straight into the milk, which just isn't true, and could put off someone who is not sure about bf and just needs one more little reason not to do so.

grrr at her.

princessglitter · 27/08/2008 21:36

She also implies that the nutritional content of the milk varies widely depending on what the mother eats, which unless you are severely malnourished is simply not true.
