breastfeedin help!!!!

my baby is 9 day sold, and has been breast feed, my left nipple is sore, and my right breast is full of lumps, and getting painful...

what can i do?

also, sumtimes my baby feeds after 2-3 hours and sumtimes after every hour... is that ok?

and one of my breats is larger then the other one, how to solve it?

lumps: hot bath/shower, massage. If it gets red or you start feeling fluey, go to the gp

feeding pattern - normal

size of boobs - no idea!

also good idea to check the latch - do you have a local bfing drop-in centre? Or ring on the bf helplines and speak to a counsellor

Lansinoh (you can get it in Boots) is great for sore nips

hi ya,I am no expert, as I am only breast feeding my 5 month son for the first time, but i think you need to massage out the lumps in your right breast to stop it turning into mastitus (ive had this and its very painful) check baby latched correctly on right breast too. A hot flannel or powerful showerhead helped me get rid of blocked ducts. I also suffered from terrible sore nipples for about 4 weeks and then found out about moist healing with lansinoh lanolin cream, you will find loads if you google :O) hth if not at least its bumped for you and experts will be along with loads of help i am sure

I would definitely get in touch with a breastfeeding counsellor asap or a knowledgeable midwife and get your latch checked.
Feeding frequwncy is perfectly normal for a baby so young.
Google "How Breastfeeding Works" for numbers of bfing orgs.

Just to add - keep feeding from the lumpy one (and the other one!) and massage towards the nipple as you're feeding.

I also found at the beginning with dd that the latch was fine but she was slipping away as she was feeding which gave me blisters on my nipple so if the initial latch seems ok, make sure s/he stays on tight.

Well done on the breastfeeding. If you're hitting a few problems it's a really good idea to seek advice as soon as poss.

Do you have a telephone number for some local breastfeeding support? Am sure someone will be able to get the national numbers for you (will have a look myself).

If your right breast is full of lumps it could be blocked ducts. I always find that giving my baby a marathon feed on that side is the most efficient way to clear them.

If your nipple is sore it could be that your latch needs a bit of adjustment (unless you did what I did early on and pulled my baby off the boob without using my finger to break the seal of their mouth. Ouch.) Could be thrush though - any other symptoms?

One of my breasts is bigger than the other too. A lot of women have this. You can even it up a bit by feeding a bit more on the smaller side.

Frequency of feeding sounds great. Feed your baby when your baby is hungry (unless your baby is going for long stretches between feeds which doesn't seem to be the case for you).

Am sure in the time it's taken me to type this, other more well informed folk will have already answered everything.

Agree with above I found there was no pattern at first and DS was all over the place, massage sometimes whilst feeding if possible (it helped me). Bet you're doing really well

Worth persuing latch adjustment even if your midwife has okayed it. Midwives aren't always experts. In my case, several midwives said my latch was fine but I was in agony for weeks with sore nipples that could have been fixed with a better latch.

Oh well I'm glad I've helped a little bit. No one seems to be told this while pregnant.

If you want to unlatch your baby before she is ready, gently slip your finger into your baby's mouth to break the seal on your breast and you'll avoid hurting your nipple with all the suction.

To be fair though, dd had such a vice like grip once she was on that when I put the finger in to break the suction she would just include my finger in the suction and carry on! I had to try and get both hands in and prise her jaws open, like you might a crocodile!!
