I have received 'Keep Warm Initiative'# literature from the Department of Health. On the front of the leaflet is a picture of a mum lovingly feeding her tiny baby.

With a bottle.

What happened to this golden opportunity for the Department of Health to show that they are serious about supporting breastfeeding?

I'm not knocking bottle feeding. I did it, I thought it was great. But this is The Department of Health - surely they should be promoting health?

ABF? Is that me? Oh, it must be - doesn't match any other names .

I hope I didn't give the impression of thinking promoting breastfeeding is somehow wrong. I don't, I really don't.

I just meant that with all the information out there, I think the DoH is fullfilling it's promise to promote it. I don't see how they can do more - except maybe banning formula. (This isn't a Nazi reference - I believe that this is/was actually the case, oh, somewhere, can't remember where.)

For this reason only, I find it hard to get worked up by this.

I wonder though in what context would you find it acceptable for a piece of govt. literature to display a picture like this? Or with their current policy, never?

It clearly bothers you a lot though, (more so that it doesn't bother me iyswim), so if you have the address to write to, then write to them.

I reckon they should produce leaflets about FF too but only give them out when a mother says she would like to/has to FF in hospital. I rememeber being asked which feeding method I wanted and I said FF there were no info leaflets or nothing yet the girl BF across the ward had about a dozen leaflets about BF. How is that right?

I know it's off subject but like ABF said I don't have a problem with promoting BF it is the right thing but for those who choose/cant then why shouldn't they have the right to info?

You get information on how to formula feed on the side of the tin, or you ask the midwife/health visitor. Nobody is denying people who want to formula feed the information they need - I didn't struggle to find it.

But this leaflet isn't about feeding. Or parentling. Or families, actually! It's about insulating your home, and it's been produced by the DOH, and it pictures a tiny tiny baby being fed from a bottle.

I know TBGP, but you did start the thread because of the way the baby was being fed - that's why it's turned out like this .

I still think if you feel strongly write away - just be prepared for them to write back and demand to know whether you've had your cavity wall insulation done.
