Nik, your baby is sleeping longer at night than most babies do at this age. Her other behaviour - crying for a feed when it gets near bedtime - is normal.

Watching you while you eat is normal - I expect she watches you when you wash up, or drive the car, and none of that means she's ready to do either

It's a real shame your HV could not assure you how well your baby is doing on your milk alone, and could only come up with the really poor (and ineffective) idea of giving baby rice

Agree with the others - it really is a good idea to wait until 6 months for weaning. What about giving her a sleepy feed just before you go to bed? We do this with DS (22 weeks) and then he goes through to the morning.

You need to do what you are happy with but bear in mind the reasons as to why weaning is not recommended until 6 months. Try other options first and then decide. Good luck.

A sleepy or "dream" feed is a really good idea. I do this - lift ds2 when I go to bed and give him one last feed and this (usually) ensures that he sleeps through until morning.

Nik76 - sounds like your dd sleeps lots - mine (22 weeks) feeds at 5, 8 and 10.30 in the evening, for an hour each time and then sleeps till 7.30 in the morning. I wouldn't be able to go for 12 hours with out a drink / snack so I don't feel dd should either (yet). Agree that a bed time 'sleepy feed' really helps.
Jaccanne - that kellmom stuff is really interseting, thanks!

7:30 - 5 sounds good going to me. i thought you were going to say she was feeding every half an hour or something.

MatNanPlus · 01/08/2008 12:49

I would do the 5am feed and all go back to bed, unless you find it near impossible to fall asleep again at this time.

It would be worth trying a dream feed when you go to bed for a week and see if this helps.

Her sleeping is really good and baby rice could likely mess that all up with tummy ache, in the night poops etc.

the susposed Professional thinks BR is an answer.
