Latch Issues

Hi

My ds is 2 weeks old and I have not had any problems with bf until now. He is starting to cause me lots of needle like pain in my nipples and I don't think he is taking enough into his mouth to latch on properly because I can hear all sorts of sucking noises which I was told in hospital means he is not latched on correctly.

I hold him across my body and have tried the rugby ball hold but he cannot get access at all.

I am not sure about feeding lying down whether this means me on my back and him crawling about all over me or me on my side. I tried lying on my side this morning but struggled with knowing when he had had enough.

I am going to raise this with my HV tomorrow but it is the first visit, but I would also appreciate any mumsnet advice.

In summary my question is - can the latching on change?

You need this, hunker's fantastic blog which has the number of brinf organisation who have bfing counsellors.
In the mean time, have a look at this website has lots of useful videos and advice about latch.
Congrats btw!

I find that I have to double check we are latching correctly every now and then as me or the baby could get lazy, think we know it all or just forget. It all your info out and have a real back to basics, keep taking himn off if not on correctly.
