Can a bf baby become constipated?

Feel like a duffer, can't remember stuff from DS1, and he's only 2...

Anyway, DS2 has just gone several days without a poo - not worried about that, as I remember DS1 once went 10 days

But when he did go, it was very sticky, almost lumpy. It didn't seem to cause him any difficulty in going (although he had a grizzly couple of days beforehand, but he's been having a growth spurt so has been on the fang and quite unsettled generally). He's 20 weeks, so not yet weaned. I just seem to recall DS1's nappies always being more liquid than that, but maybe I am having selective memory?

Any reassurance gratefully received!

Hmmm not sure although pretty sure lumpy and sticky isn't that normal for a unweaned breast fed baby so I would run it past a hv. Although saying that I have difficulty remembering what I had for breakfast let alone what my dd nappies were like 2 yrs ago!!!! xXx

Hmm, am thinking of going to get him weighed on weds (no need, really, he is an oinker - just curious) so could speak to hv then. Thanks!

Hm, when my daughter didn't poo for days I am sure it looked a fair bit like peanut butter. Does that sound the same? If so, she was fine!

DS1 was always fairly liquid when this happened (not going for a few days) but DS2 was always doing lumpier almost solid poo but I am not sure how long he would go without one - I am pretty sure it was at least a couple of days. It was a while ago though. I would have thought that if he was suffering you would have seen him straining.

Asking the HV to put your mind at rest is a good idea.

My DD2 is the same. The longest she's gone is 8 days between poos.
Its different to DD1s and can be quite "lumpy." It reminds me of the consistance of meconium only it the classic bright yellow breast fed colour.
It used to bother her, now doesn't seem to. Have to confess I haven't been worried about its consistancy although I did post when she hadn't pooed for 8 days!

Thanks all! Meconium/peanut butter definitely fairly close descriptions (will NOT be having toast for brekker tomorrow ) and he has been v smiley and sweet all day, so am sure he is fine, but will mention to hv on weds. Just having a paranoid PSB moment...

Jammi- I can't believe HVs are still trotting out that rubbish. I think I must have lucked out with my old HV. When I told her DD wasn't pooing much she said "yes, they do that. Call me in a couple of weeks or if she seems uncomfortable". Iirc, in the end DD went for more like 3 weeks without but wasn't in pain so I didn't worry, thanks to some decent advice from what appears to be the country's only decent HV.
