he does this thing where he really bites his gums together and then pulls on my nipple (stretching it very long) and then lets go.

It really hurts. I say 'ouch' and stop feeding for a bit and the little monkey laughs.

Is this normal? Will he stop soon? Its a couple of times a day at the moment.

some advice on kellymom

My DD went through a real phase of biting, and it transpired that it coincided with a tooth popping out a few days later. I used to feed her with a finger hooked and ready to unlatch her, would say NO firmly and then place her on the floor facing away from me (after the screaming AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH f*** that hurts at the top of my voice made no discernible difference )

She soon got the message and started to push my hand away whe she had no intention of biting as if to say "I won't mum".

I also used to find she was worse if she was getting full and losing interest, almost her way of telling me she was done so I'd also unlatch her if I saw her attention wavering.

HTH

Interesting - i did wonder if there was a tooth coming.

And it is towards the end of a feed when he's starting to look around.

Thanks!

someone suggested giving a teething powder or rubbing some bonjela on DDs gums before feeding. I tried it a couple of times and she didn't bite, but I'm not sure whether that's because the teething powders helped or because she just wasn't biting that day as she didn't do it again after that.
