Grrrrr. It's so annoying! Is there nothing we can do?

OP posts:
sabire · 08/07/2008 21:30

"However a lot of new mums will read this and not understand the law regarding the advertising of infant formula (that was the original post after all). This could lead to confusion and bewilderment - some will think 'What has this ad got to do with breastfeeding?"

Well - they'd have to be right thickos if they could read all the many articulate explanations on this thread from Tiktok, Hunker et al, of the link between bf failure and formula promotion, and not arrive at some sort of understanding of the issue.

"I repeat ACTION, not words"

Oh don't be an old scroat. We can talk about it if we like. It's important to thrash these things out among your peers. Helps you clarify your ideas and I've learned loads from this thread.

You obviously haven't!

hunkermunker · 08/07/2008 21:30

I liked the Boots mag too - it had nice photos and seemed to do a week-by-week breakdown of pregnancy, not just "21-25 weeks" which is a bloody long time when you're pg the first time and want to know more about eyelash development, etc.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 08/07/2008 21:34

yes, week by week was brill. I used to read it in the bath over and over again! fascinated with when finger prints and finger nails developed, as well as how much extra blood you were making etc.

Joys of pregnancy... sob, want to do it again, somebody release me from my two bed house

hf128219 · 08/07/2008 21:36

Blimey ladies - you really are charming.

'I can think of an action I'd like to see you do'

At no point have I been rude or insulting to an individual.

lackaDAISYcal · 08/07/2008 21:38

and fwiw...I've taken action; I've joined babymilk action today, have contacted consumer direct about Heinz price hike on the rebranded Farleys milk, and contacted Heinz directly by both telephone and email regarding the whole silly mess surrounding their new re-branded, re-marketed, mutated re-priced formula and the letter to my MP will be going out tomorrow!

short of chipping up on their doorstep and refusing to move until they stop using the future of our nation as guinea pigs, can't see what else I can do.....

WilfSell · 08/07/2008 21:45

What, like: 'Good grief - you need to get a serious grip on reality. Not to mention comprehension.'?

sabire · 08/07/2008 21:45

I've contacted Heinz to complain about the price hike, and written to the NCT and Johann Hari in the Independent to ask them to speak up for mums and babies.

You see hf - these thread galvanise some of us into action.

hunkermunker · 08/07/2008 21:45

So it's OK that you've been rude to all of us, telling us we're wasting our time?

Are you just going to get offended now and bluster about how appallingly you've been treated, having lobbed the first good few stones yourself - rather than answer my posts?

hf128219 · 08/07/2008 21:50

I haven't threatened violence.

WilfSell · 08/07/2008 21:54

I haven't threatened violence either. I wanted to write fuck off but I figured that would get deleted.

And as for 'charming', I'll just refresh your memory:

"Good grief - you need to get a serious grip on reality. Not to mention comprehension.

There is so much rubbish spouting from some people's mouths it is unbelievable.

I think people who are upset by Formula advertisements really need to get a grip on reality.

You would think they were portraying infanticide.

And your point actually is?

I just could not be arsed to read such a load of piffle."

I think we've been remarkably restrained not to tell you to fuck off before now given such a charming attitude.

hunkermunker · 08/07/2008 21:55

Eh?

How is it violence?

I read it as she'd like you to go away.

It wasn't polite, but you'd been pretty robust up to now, so quite why you're wilting is anyone's guess.

My points, please - can you answer them?

lackaDAISYcal · 08/07/2008 21:56

not to an individual, no hf.....but you have been rude and offensive to everyone on this thread who support the view that formula advertising and the way it is marketed is fundamentally flawed

We all need to get a grip according to you

We all spout rubbish according to you

We all need to get a sense of comprehension according to you

You ridiculed sabire over her post about the C&G leaflets left at her local hospital

You tried you best to undermine eveything that was being said on this thread with your witty little interlude with niceshoes and youngbutnotdumb

I can't be bothered trawling through for more examples but I'm sure there are plenty, so no, you haven't been rude to an individual; you have been rude to all of us......you should expect some retaliation for that imo

TennantbellesMum · 08/07/2008 22:00

lol at unpaid. I was told at the start of my course I would be paid, the end of my course I was told I wouldn't and just been informed we're going to have away days and pamper days instead of being paid

Loved the Boots magazine until I actually had Tink then I just cried over it cause it was wrong, she wasn't doing that she was in an incubator

Decided not to add to the conversation because everything's been said.

hf128219 · 08/07/2008 22:02

Wow, wow, wow ladies. It's like a tennis match - back and forth.

I have made these comments in view of the way in which you have expressed yourselves on the original subject matter.

hunkermunker · 08/07/2008 22:06

What, in an articulate, well-informed and measured fashion?

Why is it so much of a problem to you that people care about this stuff?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/07/2008 22:10

"I have made these comments in view of the way in which you have expressed yourselves on the original subject matter. "

So, do you consider yourself stooping to their level or raising your game???????

I'll quite happily say "Fuck off" though.

Off you fuck, Hf.

hf128219 · 08/07/2008 22:19

I am not the one trying to get the point across regarding the link between the advertising of formula and the decline in breastfeeding.

Of course I care - but some people cannot see the wood for the trees and get so fired up that they lose sense of what they are actually trying to achieve.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/07/2008 22:20

So you care? But what ACTION are you taking?

Like I said, off you fuck.

WilfSell · 08/07/2008 22:22

I've realised what's going on here: it's just like trying to argue with my three year old. For a moment, he sounds all cogent and then you realise he's moved on distracted by something shiny and he's lying on the floor kicking his legs about that now instead of the biscuit you started off about. He just wants to be right.

I shall take a deep breath and ignore her from now on.

hf128219 · 08/07/2008 22:23

Erudite, aren't you?

hunkermunker · 08/07/2008 22:23

So you care.

And you can see there are people trying to get the point over about formula advertising.

And do you are - what? Helping?

WilfSell · 08/07/2008 22:24

la la la la la

sabire · 08/07/2008 22:25

"Of course I care - but some people cannot see the wood for the trees and get so fired up that they lose sense of what they are actually trying to achieve"

Actually that's the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of the truth. We can see the wood. It's YOU who can only see the trees. You need to get some perspective.

You've made some really silly, ignorant points on this thread and I honestly think you should just GIVE UP now, admit defeat and go and do something else. You're arguing for the sake of it. No need. Just come back another day and say something sensible. You'll find that people are very forgiving here.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/07/2008 22:27

She's wrangling for attention she doesnt deserve, that's what she's doing. Silly little girl.

hf128219 · 08/07/2008 22:33

I am most charmed to have been told to fuck off several times. I have no need to be forgiven for anything I have said.

I have as much right as anyone to say what I choose to say, as do you.

My main point is that your time could be better dedicated to campaign work
against the beast that is the formula marketing machine.
