Asked DD yesterday...

So I explained that it is where milk comes out of to feed babies.

"But babies have bottles"

???

I only stopped breastfeeding Feb 07, I breastfed DS for a year, how has she completely forgotten that???

When I said about feeding DS, she said that he has bottles

I'm not an aggressive breastfeedist, but it was quite to hear that from the little girl who wanted Gran to breastfeed a toy puppy because that was how she assumed we fed all babies

Sadly there is so much FF bottle feeding culture, from baby dolls with bottles to advertising on TV, coupled with very few actual real life breastfeeding mums, it is unsuprising that our children regard that as the norm

I was the last of our friends to have a baby, so she hasn't been in contact with any other than DS I guess.

Friend is due in 2 weeks, hoping bf goes well for her!

My DD was playing with a baby doll and bottle this morning. When she was given the toy she threw the bottle away and breastfed the doll.

Now a few months later, she has noticed the real life babies being bottle fed and has started to bottle fed her own baby doll, yet she is still nursing herself !!!

Aw bless her... images of bottles are everywhere.

(but lol at "aggressive breastfeedist"!)

I fed my ds (2.8yo) in front of my 4.5yo niece the other day.

She asked me if I "had milk in there". When I replied that I did, and would do until ds doesn't feed any more, she pulled a face that seemed to say "eeeurgh".

I didn't pursue the conversation, but she obviously had no idea that older children could breastfeed too. But then why would she, it's not a common sight.
