DD is 16 weeks old today, exclusively breast-fed, gaining weight very well. Only has a poo about every second day, v little for a breast fed baby, A fairly normal breast-fed poo. I breast-fed my other dd and she was the usual, poo-ed 2 or 3 times a day. I hadn't thought this was causing any problems, bu lately I feel she's in discomfort. I suppose the discomfort could be teeth or anything. I'm reluctant to do anything, the books say do nothing but if she's in pain?? Sleep also v poor, and I feel that sometimes tummy cramps are waking her. Any advice?

She's not constipated pooing every other day is perfectly normal for a breastfed baby of this age (some of them only go every two weeks!). Mine have both been like your DD1, in the multiple poos a day camp, but infrequent poos are just as normal for breast fed babies, honestly. She may well have wind DD gets a lot of trapped wind even with burping and will squirm around in discomfort before producing a series of stentorian farts.

very unlikely to be an issue- ds4 poo's every few days, it's normal

but as HV says.... if you are really worried try drinking orange juice, often that part passed on in breastmilk will help if a baby is constipated

no idea if this is right or ollocks but worth a go?
