If it is itchy and sore I would think it may be thrush? Is the pain happening when you feed or in between feeds? Does your dc have any symptoms in the mouth? I have been treated for thrush many times (don't have it incidentally have nipple vaso spasm but thats a whole other story) and was given a 150mg dose of fluconazole which you can also buy over the counter - generic or canesten/ diflucan once etc. I was also given a 7 day course of 50mg fluconazole - you can take it when bf - it does go into your milk but in a dose that is 10% that of the infant dose anyway. My GP was happy to prescribe but I think lots of Mns have had probs getting this - if you can't get an appointmentr for a while it is v cheap to buy. HTH

Meant to say yestersday - if you buy the fluconazole over the counter don't tell them you are bf or they can't sell it to you as it is not licensed and they would be in big trouble if you complained. Also the thrush can be introduced through some trauma to the nipple so your dc may not necessarily have it or catch it from you esp if they are in good health.
