Anyone took Cabergoline to suppress lactation after giving birth?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some reassurance and would really appreciate hearing from women who have had a similar experience.

I gave birth a few months ago and took 2,5 mg of cabergoline in total over 4 days to suppress lactation. I’m now feeling a bit anxious about the total dose and wondering if anyone else has taken a similar or even higher amount shortly after giving birth.

If you took 2,5 mg, 3 mg, 4 mg, 5 mg, or a similar total dose after delivery, I’d really appreciate it if you could share:

  1. How much you took in total
  2. Over how many days you took it
  3. How many days after giving birth you started taking it
  4. Whether you experienced any side effects
  5. Most importantly, whether everything was okay afterwards

I’m mainly looking to hear about experiences from women who took a higher total dose after giving birth and were ultimately okay.

Thank you so much for sharing

Do you have health anxiety. Because asking for reassurance isn't goi g to help with that. You were prescribed a medication, took it as prescribed, and are worrying months later.

Is there something happening to you that’s making you worry?

Yes. It was one dose of I don’t know how much because I’m pretty sure they never actually told me and also my youngest is 5 and half now so notes long gone. But it did the trick, milk never came and I didn’t have any noticeable side effects although I imagine it can be hard to distinguish some side effects from normal post partum stuff e.g. fatigue.

But you’d be probably be better discussing whatever is going on with your GP or even forgetting about it completely because what’s done is done now. Depends if you’re having actual health issues or just worrying in general about having taken it in the past.

I don’t know what dose but I know two people (who both have the same medical condition) who take that drug daily and have done for over a decade…. What is it that you’re worried about?
