I was just wondering, how do you know when your baby needs a faster flow teat? At the moment, DS1 is 12 weeks old and is using Avent teat number 2 (is that meduim flow??) and dont knwo if or when i should start using number 3 teats?

Try him on the size 3s and see how he gets on. If he can't cope with the faster flow, you'll soon know about it (spluttering, spraying milk everywhere, windy etc)!

DS is 7 mths and only changed onto size 3 a few wks ago. I'd tried numerous times before but he just got into a real state. I think he had such a strong suck that anything too fast flowing just swamped him. You may need to try it for a few feeds to give him a chance to get used to it.

Also, you can buy variable flow teats that change the flow depending on position of teat. I used these with DD and they were good because I didn't need to go out and buy more teats when she was ready for next size up.

I found with ds that he started o fall asleep halfway thru the feed, which told me he was working too hard to get the milk and was wearing imself out.
You'll know if they're too big as milk will be pouring down his face and he'll have trouble keeping up.
