HELP! Got the Savoy cabbage in...what now?

Never had the need to use it before, but I have mastitis.
Before when I've had the start of it, I've managed to massage the lumps away whilst baby is feeding. It's not worked this time and I've got a hot red/purple patch over the painful lumpy area, just on one breast.
Does anyone know how best to use the Savoy cabbage to ease this please?

Keep it in the fridge to cool it down and then pop it in your bra! And call the emergency doctor- mastitis can be horrible, it made me delerious both times I had it and really should have called the doctor sooner. Call them now and request that they bring antibiotics with them rather than just giving you a prescription you will have to wait til tomorrow to collect.

Thank you. What exactly is the cabbage meant to do?

I did massage it under a hot shower, but expressing doesn't prove very fruitful this baby round. I think I've got it because I've cut down to 2 feeds daily from feeding on demand. I had intended to have stopped by this weekend, but Dd has other idea's.

Thank you PeterDuck. I may try a quick bath before bed in a few minutes...

Hi PeterDuck, Thank you for asking. I have reduced the redness considerably thank goodness and the feeling of bruising going too...I didn't do the hot bath thing, but kept the cabbage in over night and today and keep massaging the area. I spoke to the HV today at the surgery and she took a look and said to just keep doing what I'm doing, it'll go. I have a sore throat and a headache, but feel ok(except for the ME)apart from that.

Thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it.
