going away and breastfeeding

DS2 is 13 months and I still bf morning and evening. DH and I are going away to a wedding in a couple of weeks - we leave on the Fri morning (post feed) and return Sun evening (maybe pre feed maybe not). Will my milk last - should I express and chuck it away whilst away to keep my boobs going?
thanks

you might want to express to relieve any engorgement anneme as although you probably don't get at the minute, missing a day and a half of feeds might cause some discomfort.

Not sure about how a one off missed couple of days will affect your supply though, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly.

Have you had a look on Kellymom?

Your milk will last, but you may get a bit uncomfortable by the Sunday -- you can always hand-express in the shower if you get painfully engorged, though.

(I went away for five days at this age, was fine apart from the slightly painful engorgement, DS picked up bf again right away with no issues)

Thank you - I might take my pump with me (having blown the dust off it!) in case I do feel uncomfortable.
Kellymom - good site thank you

Formula milk is much more convenient.

BouncingTurtle · 26/06/2008 21:39

Formula milk is unnecessary for a 13mo.

Freddysteddy · 26/06/2008 21:44

That's true. Why don't you just not breastfeed?

anneme · 26/06/2008 21:48

huh? I'm a bit confused about where we are going here!

freddysteddy, have you even read the OP?

Olihan · 26/06/2008 21:58

I've had a few occasions away from bf ds2 and have had no problems apart from getting a bit over full and uncomfortable. AFAIK, you could not feed for a month and your supply would pick back up once you fed again.

Freddyteddy's missed the point anyway - if you want to give alternative milk you may as well just give cow's milk as he's 13mo. No point paying for formula when you can give a bit of the white stuff - duh!

ilovemydog · 26/06/2008 21:59

Maybe you could freeze it to avoid the 'pump and dump?'

Ouch - that other thread did get rather lively!
Thank you all - I was worrying that, at this stage of breastfeeding, it would be easy for it all to disappear so it is good to hear it won't - and I might look like I have big boobs by the end of the week - even if uncomfortable.
FWIW DS has been having cow's milk during the day since he was about 10 months - HV and co said that it should be fine since I was bfing as well - and, for me, formula is too much hassle and I worry that i will get it wrong etc.

I went away several times while ds3 was a toddler and I did pump. On one trip I saved the milk and brought it back, the last couple of times I didn't but I did feel it was a waste. I would have gotten uncomfortable without pumping and would have worried ( unnecessarily?) about supply.

ilovemydog · 27/06/2008 08:54

If nothing else, you'll have great cleavage for the wedding!

Notanexcitingname · 27/06/2008 11:25

At 13 months I would pump-in fcat when I did this I woke at 4am with buder-boobs and had to pump!

Now he's nearer 2, I don't have to pump when away.

Thus far he's come back to the boob after every trip, but I still worry, every time.

StealthPolarBear · 27/06/2008 16:26

have had a couple of nigt away from ds, one at 13m, one at just before 14. both fine from his pov but i was desperate to feed him on return - can't pump to same extent!!
