My 19 month old has not been eating for the past week. He will only drink breastmilk. I wanted to wean him off breastmilk but it seems like thats not an option right now because its the only thing hes having and wont drink milk from bottle. Hes not the best eater, one day he will eat a full 3 meals and the next will be lucky to get a few spoons in. But this past week hes probably not even had a full meal in the whole week. I dont know how long this is going to go on for. Im starting to worry. Hes also got a cold which doesn't help. Any advice?

Probably because he has a cold he’s a bit poorly and coming to you for comfort. Keep offering food, and hopefully he’s a bit better with food when the cold has subsided.
if that still doesn’t improve then speak to your health visitor, they’re really helpful when it comes to feeding

It will be the cold. I really wouldn’t worry.

Check his mouth if you can too to see if any teeth are erupting. The back molars can start to come in around this age.

Id also try him with a doer of paracetamol about an hour before lunch to see if that improves things.

I also don’t think it’s important that he won’t take a bottle. Bottles aren’t advised over 1 year anyway and bottle refusal shouldn’t mean you can start to wean him from BFing when he’s well again.

One thing we did was to give them an open cup of full fat cow’s milk in the bath to get them both used to an open cup and also used to drinking cow’s milk. The novelty of having it in the bath usually worked.

Have you tried him with things like homemade milkshakes, Ice Lollies or Hot Chocolate as an alternative to BFing?

Alao don’t worry about him
eating some days and seemingly surviving on fresh air on other days. This is totally normal at this age. It’s our job to provide the food but little people are really good at self regulating so if they don’t eat I’d just assume that they are not hungry at this time.
