Itchy breast rash while breastfeeding, has anyone had something similar?

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar.

Around 4-5 weeks ago I developed a very itchy rash on both breasts. It started as a few small red raised spots and has gradually spread to cover both breasts, at first it was everywhere except the nipples but now my nipples have started itching too in the last few days.

We had some warm weather when it started, but I haven’t changed washing powder, soap, bras or used any new products. I’m still breastfeeding my 22-month-old.

I had my first period post partum less than 2 weeks ago so I thought it was linked to hormones but my period has been and gone and the rash, although looks calm now it still red and the intense itchiness remains.

I’ve seen my GP and have been prescribed anti fungal and anti eczema cream which didn’t work, it made the rash angry. Stopped all creams and took a daily antihistamines as advised by another dr which calmed the rash down but it never went and was still itchy. The dr then prescribed a stronger steroid eczema cream betamethasone cream in case it’s eczema, but I’ve only just started using it yesterday and the itching has now increased so I feel I’m just making it worse again.

Has anyone had anything similar? If so, what did it turn out to be and what helped?

Honestly? It’s probably just a rash, but I’d be pushing for a referral to the breast clinic, just in case.
