given up bf - how long will my breasts be full?

I gave up bf yesterday for various reasons but now my breasts are absolutely killing me they are so full - my MW has told me to go cold turkey and just massage my boobs with hot flannels to clear any blockages. Even touching them causes alot of pain though so not sure I can do that! I can sit in a hot bath and put flannel over them and that eases them a little - but can't do that all day!

Just wondered how long it would be before my milk dries up and whether I'm at risk from mastitis in the interim period.

Thanks.

That sounds horrible.

I'm surprised they told you just to stop just like that... I thought a gradual stopping was best.

Hope someone with more able to help will be along soon.

but large cabbage, stick it in fridge.

peel off outer leaves and wrap them round your boobs inside your bra.

honestly.

change them when you need to for colder ones.

you will smell like a soup kitchen but you will not care.

there is something in the leaves that inhibits the milk production i think, but i never cared about the science.

last time i bought two cabbages and nothing else from the shop. the assistant said 'we know what's for dinner then!' but i didn't have the heart to tell her what they were really for!

as long as you don't get any inflammation and red spots you'll be fine - rock hard norks should start to soften in a couple of days...

sponge - how long have you been bf?

spongebrainbigpants · 25/06/2008 10:59

9 days - does that affect how long my milk will stay around for?

Yes, sponge. Longer term breastfeeding means milk stays for longer.

After just 9 days, cold turkey is an option - you should be ok as long as you watch for other signs of soreness, redness, lumps. Cabbage may well help.

Supportive bra will also help.

Sorry bf did not work out for you.

thank you tiktok - i may try cold turkey then

totally gutted bf didn't work out but we had to make the decision in the end that was best for my little boy and me and sadly bf just wasn't happening
