Breastfeeding in Greece

Just wondered if anyone knew anything about breastfeeding out and about in Greece - Corfu to be precise.

We're off there in 4 weeks with my 2 month old and whilst I'll breastfeed anywhere in this country (despite it being illegal!!) I don't fancy being arrested in a foreign country!

Anyone had any experience? my instinct tells me they'll be much more accomodating than over here?

I should think that breastfeeding is the more the norm over there, but discretion is the key. A carefully placed shawl should suffice. i spent some time in mauritius years ago where (then anyway)mothers all breastfed- but never openly. I think you just have to remenber that although breastfeeding may be the normal thing in foreign countries, the bearing of flesh definately isnt- ( the opposite to here !!)Its not the feeding that offends, its just that its they're culture/religion to cover up.

By the way- is it illegal here ??? I never heard that. In that case im always breaking the law!!!

it's not illegal, but exposed breasts could possibly offend public decency? Public Order legislation? I am only guessing...

Isn't it Corfu where they do lovely lace?

bf is NOT illegal in public in the UK. There are no laws to say it is legal, but there are no laws to say i could eat an ice cream in public either. It is illegal in Scotland to harrass a bf mother by asking her to stop or move.

I'd have thought you would be fine in greece, but agree with eg muslin over you both if poss. i think it very unlikely you would be arrested for bf anywhere. (Iran? Saudi?). Lots of women sunbath topless in Greece.

Have a great holiday.bf is v useful on the plane!

ime breastfeeding exposes far less breast than most clothes manage to.
just throw a scarf over you and baby. wh y would anyone mind?

agree with weasle, but think it's illegal in Scotland to interfere with a woman breastfeeding - in other words, one doesn't need to reach the standard of harassing?

Forgot about topless sunbathing - you'll be fine then on the beach!

If it's any help, I just use a blanket across shoulder. Saw a very stylish woman in France bf'ing. Silk scarf. I couldn't pull that off....
