Has anyone taken a magnesium/calcium supplement to prevent their milk supply dropping just before their period?

as recommended on here and did it work?

I've just worked out why ds has been feeding like a demon so was going to try taking something to prevent it happening again.

I did because my bones felt hollow and 'itchy' - weird sensation, can't really describe it. May have been psychosomatic but felt better almost immediately every time!

and iron

but not for maintaining milk supply when your periods returned?

How odd, I didn't realise your milk changed at period time.
But no haven't.

I found breastfeeding particularly draining during my period and tried supplements in order to get through the day without collapsing - and in order to be able to continue breastfeeding. I don't think they maintained my milk supply so much as sustained me.

I didn't realise either vs, but I guess it makes sense what with the hormonal fluctuations that happen then.

so far I haven't felt too knackered (well nothing that isn't expected when ds insists on waking up at 5am!) swampster. Ds has been so desperate for milk the past few days, I assumed it was either a growth spurt or my milk supply dipping a bit.

How old is DS? Depending on age I'd guess growth spurt or after something more substantial?

HeadFairy · 20/06/2008 19:38

he's 9 months old. I did think it might be an growth spurt, or he's catching up as he didn't eat much for a few days when he had a cold last week. I don't know why, but I'd assumed I was past the growth spurt stage which is silly cos he's still growing so why not in spurts?

Never tried it but my milk supply always drops right down about 4 days before my period and dd is always impossible to get to sleep, also get the weird hollow bones feeling, am pregnant now though so no periods for a while hooray! (no idea what that'll do to the feeding though)

HeadFairy · 20/06/2008 21:33

hmmmm now I'm confused, perhaps it was a drop in supply. I think on kellymom it says that there shouldn't be any changes to your milk supply when you're pg idontbelieveit. Are you going to carry on feeding both babies when the new one comes along? Your dd is going to get a lovely surprise at the sudden increase in milk available
