am i overfeeding my baby? combo feeding question

just wondering if anyone can tell me if im overfeeding my baby or if this sounds normal. im breastfeeding but also giving some formula since wednesday. he will be a month tomorrow.

he got weighed today and hes 8lb 2oz. he was 7lb 4oz on 27 feb so he has put weight on well which the health visitor said was good.

since wednesday ive been breastfeeding like usual but also giving bottles of cow & gate sometimes after if he still seems hungry. usually the bottles are between 2oz and 3oz and he doesnt always finish them.

the thing thats confusing me is he still seems hungry quite a lot. he sucks his hands loads and roots around even after feeding sometimes which is why i end up making a bottle.

sleep wise he did quite well last night actually. he went down about 9:30pm and slept until 2:10am when he woke up for a nappy change and feed. after that he fed and went back down again.

during the day though he is really awake for a newborn and looks around loads. he doesnt sleep for hours like people say newborns do.

another thing is his tummy. yesterday he seemed to struggle a bit before doing a poo. he gets really gassy and pulls his legs up and you can hear loads of farts. yesterday he even went red in the face pushing before he finally went.

he did two poos yesterday afternoon but hasnt gone again since yesterday. he keeps doing the gassy pulling legs up thing today but nothing yet.

so now im worrying maybe im feeding him too much or the formula is making his tummy funny.

does this sound normal amounts for a baby his age or am i giving too much? i dont want to overfeed him but he genuinely seems hungry sometimes so i dont know what the right thing is.

Was this the first time he had formula? It could be the change in milk making him gassy and a bit constipated.
It doesn’t sound like he needs the formula at all, if he’s hungry he’ll cry and if you breastfeed on demand your supply will increase.
He could be wanting to feed for longer for comfort rather than hunger so at a month old you could give a dummy. In my experience if they’re actually hungry a dummy won’t keep them happy

He doesn't need top up bottles. Keep breastfeeding. Breastfed babies don't eat every 3 hours like formula babies and they do also suck for comfort, not just food. And at 1 month, you're still building your supply. You're risking sabotaging your supply as you will make less milk.

Formula would indeed mess with his stomach as he's not used to it. And lots of babies who are on formula get constipated, it's a common issue.

Yes it’s the formula upsetting his stomach. Formula is known to cause constipation in small babies. I would ditch the bottles and stick to breastfeeding.

You could introduce a dummy if that's something you want to do. I did at four weeks. I mostly breastfed and baby wanted to comfort suckle so much between weeks two and three that they gained 525g (1lb1oz) in a week. I was exhausted from the feeding, let alone anything else. A dummy helped a lot.
