Hi all,

Combi feeding my 4 week old (plannned to EBF but unfortunately that wasn’t on the cards for us) and absolutely horrified by how expensive formula is!

Currently we’re using aptamil but I’ve seen that Aldis formula is only 6.99. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if they use this and how they’ve found it? Is it cheaper because it’s full of rubbish or do they all need to meet the same nutritional requirements etc? Just trying to work out how it’s coming out sooo much cheaper 😐

All formula sold in the UK has to meet the same nutritional requirements

Totally agree. They all have to adhere to very strict guidelines. I would use the Aldi one Smile

There are two differences, the first being that Aldi's formula is only available as powder so if you need the convenience of ready made you would have to swap to Aptimil for that which is apparently incredibly similar and you can then revert back to Aldi's powder one.

The nutritional floor for formula is very high so they all fill the same nutritional needs of a baby. There is no rubbish in the formula due to strict guidelines.

The second difference and might sway you away is that Aldi uses a vegetable oil blend just like Aptimil but it contains a small amount of palm oil which some people may not be comfortable with.

I think price difference might well come from marketing clawback (as in they spend a lot of advertising so need to recoup those costs) and you can buy Aptimil in any supermarket and online on Amazon whereas Aldi's is only sold in Aldi.
