Poor weight gain

My baby was born on Christmas Day last year and weighed 3.510kg. After the initial birth weight loss, she gained well before losing a little again one week. She then started to gain well again until her 4 week appointment at the paediatrician where she only weighed 3.7kg.

The doctor seemed concerned about this and set the target of 4.5kg by her 8 week check up (only 3.5 weeks after the last appointment).

Im not sure whether I should also be worried. She was weighed yesterday by the midwife and she was 4.24kg so is unlikely to hit the 4.5kg target by our appointment on Thursday with the paediatrician.

Other than this weight issue, she is a happy little baby who only cries for a short while usually when hungry! She has plenty of wet nappies and there doesn't seem to be any other cause for concern. I just wondered if anyone else has gone through poor weight gain and how you managed?

Is her latch ok? Any concerns at all re feeding? How often is she feeding?

If she's going for long stretches at night without a feed, you might need to start waking her up unfortunately.

That is quite a drop in centiles which usually worrries doctors. Weight gain is important at this age, they may recommend you top up with formula and pump as well.

How are you feeding her @hm8688? Only asking as the advice will differ if you’re FFing or BFing.

Whichever you are doing though I’d have a read of this on Tongue Tie as that is often the culprit of slow weight gain, however tou feed your LO Smile

My DS was born on the 75th percentile and dropped to the 25th by the time he was a couple of months old. Meanwhile his height was on the 98th percentile. It was stressful at the time but in my DS's case it turned out fine. I carried on breastfeeding and he's now a healthy teen (still tall and skinny!).

Yeah my BF’s DS was the same. He’s in his early twenties now and still looks like a beanpole Smile Think he was using so much energy to grow taller tgat he just couldn’t put much weight on.

How are things tonight @hm8688?
