Here

Aren't they basically saying the health benefits of BF are all shite?

i chased the bounty lady out of my hospital room when she barged in on day 1. she came back on day 2 and left as soon as she saw my face.

kiskideesameanoldmother · 16/06/2008 12:27

i have only seen the advert once and it was half way through before i heard the words C&G which pricked up me ears. I knew i wouldn't like it.

ronshar · 16/06/2008 12:28

WenchConnection · 16/06/2008 12:29

Bounty is shite but don't get angry at them, blame the NHS who accept money from them to allow them to tout.

SoupDragon · 16/06/2008 12:29

I thought it was an anti-formula ad too when I first saw it. My immediate thought to the "do I look as if..." was "Ah, breastmilk".

Very very sneaky indeed. Effectively saying the "benefits" of breastmilk are a load of b*llocks and can be obtained from C&G follow on milk.

WenchConnection · 16/06/2008 12:32

Interesting how we never see any pro breastfeeding adverts on tv, funded by the government, we get plenty on stop smoking/ fit fire alarms / drink driving etc

Habbibu · 16/06/2008 12:32

What is a Bounty Bag? I don't think we get them in Scotland...

DonDons · 16/06/2008 12:37

Bounty bag is a bag full of crap and a ploy to get you to invest the £250 in their trust fund. It is mainly adverts and some free samples of stuff (sudocrem/dettol/nappies/wipes etc)

The bounty woman comes and hassles you when you have just given birth (I told mine to fark right off).

VictorianSqualor · 16/06/2008 12:41

Unfortunately I don't think this advert is breaking any rules or flouting any guidelines.
The advertising companies are all too aware of what they can and can't do, it's perfectly legal to insinuate that formula is just as good as breastmilk and to use babies/show scenarios that make it look like a baby milk advert rather than a follow-on milk advert.
All the more reason to fight for the laws to be changed and all formula milk advertising be banned rather than just 0-6 months.

Go to the NCT website and add your support to changing the laws.

Sushipaws · 16/06/2008 12:44

We do get the silly Bounty woman in Scotland, I thought she was a doctor at first, then she tried to sell me photos, bloody not what I needed when I was trying to have my first post birth wee.

Sorry Bethoo, Petite Filou arn't that bad, they just have sugar in them, but so do most kids yogharts. I just hate the way they are advertised as being a health food when they're more like sweets. Don't get me started though or I'll be here all day banging on about Fruit Shoots etc....

MrsJamin · 16/06/2008 12:57

Complaint submitted, thanks for the link. I hate that advert also. If you were struggling to breastfeed and your baby was having a bad day, you might be inclined to think that giving formula might make them happier - which is so dangerous.

AitchTwoCiao · 16/06/2008 13:00

bounty deffo exists in sctoland. i refused to give my address to the woman in exchange for the bag, she SWORE that it wouldn't be used for ads so i relented and gave her an old rented flat one. unfortunately our eagle-eyed postie handed on the junk mail because he knew where we'd moved to. so... she was a total utter liar.

Huh. Not a sign of them in Dundee. none of that first photo stuff, either.

DonDons · 16/06/2008 13:52

the photo woman was a different one to the bounty woman. she was sent packing too.

LookingForwardToSummer · 16/06/2008 14:22

I use the plastic box from the bounty people every day - perfect for keeping my washable wipes in!

What did people who've complained but didn't see the advert on television put for when / where seen on the ASA complaints site?

Waiting to hear on a date, time and channel for the complaint too.

BouncingTurtle · 16/06/2008 18:05

LFTS - yep I did the same with my box!!

AD is very underhand methinks.

Moomin · 16/06/2008 18:09

There's another thread about it [[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/2724/549047 here. Unfortunately it seems to have done the trick with some people

'The babies are sooo cute' therefore the advert is innocuous and we are all spoilsports for criticising it. Yes, the babies are 'cute' because they are manipulated using CGI

Moomin · 16/06/2008 18:10

sorry. here

MegBusset · 16/06/2008 18:38

I have complained, I just said I saw it in the last week but couldn't remember which day.

OP posts:
toastrack · 16/06/2008 20:37

In Scotland there are nice ads for breast feeding. The woman is doing it not just talking about it.

tellnoone · 17/06/2008 21:00

I complained about the SMA tv advert - was bitterly disappointed too that they didn't uphold any of the complaints - and now the floodgates have opened, Aptamil and C&G advertising on TV. The ASA really has no idea what it's done. I then emailled them to ask who do I complain to about the ASA's failure to protect the public - they replied and gave the name and address of some Lord somone or other. Admit I didn't complain further because I frankly felt defeated and thought it won't do any good anyway (I know I know if no-one complains then nothing will ever change). The govt should have made the law watertight by banning all formula advertising that way the ASA wouldn't need to be involved - they are all so naive about why follow-on milk was created in the first place. rant over.

morocco · 17/06/2008 23:11

that is exactly the advert I was talking to a friend about last week. yes, my jaw dropped to the floor. perfect example of why ads should be banned
