Formula Amounts and Dropping Feeds

My baby is 12 weeks old, and is my first child.
He is currently on 6 x 5oz formula feeds per day.

Typical day is he wakes around 7/7:30am and I give him his first feed of the day.

Then he has bottles at -

10:30/11
1:30/2
4:30/5
8/8:30
11:30

We normally go upstairs with him at 9pm and transfer to his next to me crib, and he falls asleep.

We are then waking him for his 11:30pm feed after which he sleeps until 7am/7:30am.

My partner said in a few weeks he’ll probably drop his 11:30pm feed, but when we do get to that point, will he then not be really short on his daily amount?

5oz seems right for him at the moment, I feel 6 may be too much but if we were to drop that feed we’d need to as he grows be giving him 7oz or his daily amount won’t go up?

apologies if this seems very stupid, I’m learning everyday.

Some people say never wake a sleeping baby, but we do for his 11:30pm feed, so he’s not waking at 3/4am.

im just so confused in the whole dropping feeds thing but then making sure he’s getting enough formula.

many thanks

Youve probably got ages before he drops any feeds. He may not drop any until he's well established on solids so I wouldn't be overthinking things right now

I do agree that it will probably be ages before he starts to drop a bottle but just wanted to ask if he’s currently draining the 5floz bottles?

Also, hpw much does he weigh?

Yeah he empties every bottle. He doesn’t ever leave any. Sometimes he tries to drink it rapidly, other times he just finishes it before falling asleep. He sometimes does cry when he’s finished but briefly and only maybe once per day. I’m not sure on weight he was last weighed 4 weeks ago and was 12lbs.

So if you follow the NHS guideline which is 2.5 Floz per pound in weight he’s getting exactly the right amount for his weight.

If he’s draining the bottles though I would start to add an extra ounce. It’s up to him if he drink is it or not now t generally if they’re draining the bottle ots time to up the volume Smile
