6 month old refusing bottle

CosyUser · 12/01/2026 20:40

baby is 6 months old and has suffered with extreme reflux since birth , he used to take around 30-40oz a day and slept through the night from 6 weeks untill about a month ago. He now wakes in the night to have two whole bottles and this is because he’s not having milk during the day
I struggle to get 25oz in him. We weened him from 4 months as per our consultants advice but I just don’t know how to get more milk in him . Today he’s barely had 20oz !!! He uses the nuk perfect match bottles and I tried upping the teat but it didn’t help. I’m at a loss and go back to work soon so eager for any advice !!!! TIA

Once they've started weaning babies only need around 20oz (600ml) of milk a day.

Sounds like they are drinking ok volumes?

If they are still tracking on their centile with plenty of wet nappies they are doing fine.

Try milk in a cup. Is he taking water from a cup with meals?

20 Floz is fine at 6 months. If he dips below 20 Floz then you need to start giving a daily vitamin.

If he’s struggling to take is milk during the day though and had reflux symptoms, can I ask which milk he’s currently on?

same story as yours - same timing, we went through the same at 6 mo. I know it’s terrifying but pls try not to worry too much. Check he’s hydrated and try not to push it. My toddler is 2 now and those days are long gone :)
