Cluster feeding

Hi

My baby is 6 weeks old. For the last 3 weeks she has cluster fed every evening apart from 1. My last baby would cluster feed for only a few days at a time. I'm exhausted now. Has anyone else had a baby cluster for so long? Did anything help it end? Her latch isn't always great so I was wondering if this wasn't helping

DS1 pinned me to the sofa for 24 hours solid at 6 weeks. I did nothing but feed. It coincided with a huge growth spurt - I think 6 weeks is a big one??

Ah sorry, just saw that it’s every night. Although it’s very normal still, it might be worth getting her latch checked.

If their latch isn’t great, are you getting any RL support for this? Is there a local BFing Support Group you could go to?

And has she got any of these symptoms?

This video from Dr Newman might help you get a good latch and have you tried laid back BFing?

This article from Kellymom on cluster feeding might also be helpful Flowers

Thanks for your responses

I haven't had any RL help recently. I had naively hoped latch would improve as she grew as it did with my last baby

She has most of the symptoms on the tongue tie list. I did wonder about tie but I asked about 4 different midwives who all said she didn't have it so I'm at a loss as to how to proceed with that.

I've noticed that I can position her in to what would be a good latch and she either just will not attach or briefly tries to attach and pulls off with a facial expression as if it was really unpleasant

If she ticks most of the symptoms for TT I think it’s definitely worth looking into. Have a look at this list of Tongue Tie Practitioners, some are free but most so charge a fee. If it is TT then it’s best to her sorted as soon as you can as it can lead to problems with sleep, weaning and speech later.

As for RL support, the ABM have a list here but I don’t know how up to date it is. You might be best contacting the group before you go just to check that it’s running.

The LLL might have a group near you or a Leader who can help yoi with latch.

Hope it all gets resolved soon Flowers
