Mastitis again or cold?

Hi, I had mastitis 2 weeks ago which was treated with 7 days of antibiotics. It cleared up after a few days and I felt better. Then on Saturday I had a really sore breast again but I couldn’t find a lump, there was no redness but it felt a tiny bit warm. I used ice and ibuprofen and by the end of the day the pain had eased up.

This morning I’ve woken up feeling awful fever, shivering, blocked and runny nose at the same time, headache and generally achy and spaced out. I’m also ovulating at the moment so I could possibly have breast pain from this as my symptoms during ovulation always vary. The doctors won’t see me as I don’t have a sore breast now and no redness. I’d just like some advice to comfort me as I get quite bad health anxiety and obviously I’m worried about the mastitis flaring up/turning in to sepsis with the symptoms and short antibiotics course.

Does it feel the same as last time? I’ve had mastitis about six or seven times and I know exactly what it is as soon as I start to come down with it. Hard to describe, but a bit like you know you are going to be run over by a train, awful feeling of impending doom, comes on super fast and goes just as fast once you get antibiotics.

If you feel the same again then I would insist on seeing a doctor again as you have/had breast pain. Sometimes you need two different types of antibiotics to get clear of it. If the symptoms are different then it’s quite possible that it’s just a cold/flu type thing and your anxiety is making it seem much worse.

some people don’t take antibiotics when feeding and just keep going through mastitis symptoms. You know your body and whether you feel strong enough to do that. Hope you feel better soon
