Ok this is going to sound awfully and i feel terrible !!!!!!!!!

I am feeding my 6 day old dd with a bottle and also breastfeeding when i feel i can (Long Story) anyway i usually BF her in the morning and then at about 6ish with bottle feed in betwwen (i know it sound odd but i works for me)

Any way i have had a totally mad day today as my sister came to see dd so got up and dressed and ran into super marked with my 2 dd,When i came home my sister called to say that she was nearly there 10ish so started running around doing things etc

Any way i went to feed DD to night latched her on and she was feeding way then realised that i haven't changed my breast pads since last night !!!!!!!!!! and when i smelt they didn't smell very nice at all.

Im so ashamed!! and worried to death that my tiny DD is going to get ill beacuse ive been to busy to remember.

Please Please Please someone reassure me that she will be OK and that she won't get ill beacuse i was to tired and busy to take care of her properly. Im totally beside my self and realy need some advice !! xx

SHe'll be fine, dont worry.

whomovedmychocolate · 09/06/2008 21:15

Oh you silly sausage! It's FINE Breastmilk has antibacterial qualities. Your pads niff because your boobs are sweaty not because your milk is made of poison.

But are you really only feeding twice a day?

She will be fine. I've never heard of a baby getting anything from a breastpad and I'm sure I was alot worse than you about changing mine.

nervousal · 09/06/2008 21:16

of course she'll be OK! Surprised that at 6 days old she isn't feeding more regularly? Not an expert though!!!

callmeovercautious · 09/06/2008 21:19

She will be OK X

Guadalupe · 09/06/2008 21:19

It really won't harm her but it sounds like you need to relax. All that running around if you gave birth six days ago. Get your sister to go to the shop for you!

cadelaide · 09/06/2008 21:20

sweetbean, do not be worried sick, she will be absolutely fine.

sweetbean · 09/06/2008 21:20

I can't tell you how relived i am im just sitting hear crying and crying !!!!!!!!!!

I thought that i had made her ill beacuse it was 24hrs since i last change the breast pad and that the milk on the pad had gone off and that's why it smelt!!!

Are you sure she will be OK??

Thank you all so much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!XXXXXX

yes, like guadalupe says, do not run around.

Be kind to yourself

cadelaide · 09/06/2008 21:22

sweetbean.....she will be OK

Guadalupe · 09/06/2008 21:22

It is normal to be crying and crying and worrying about things. You have just given birth and are full of hormones and ought to be sitting on the sofa relaxing while someone fetches you cake. And if this isn't possible, then fetch yourself some and sit down.

sweetbean · 09/06/2008 21:23

I will try to relax a bit more Thanks for all the kind words im feeling alot better now xxxxx

Hi Sweetbean....don't worry, she will be fine - honest.

My MW was telling me this morning that when they snip a tongue tie all they do to treat the wound is get you to BF straight after they have done the cut because breastmilk has such excellent antibacterial qualities.

Those pads can smell funny after a very short while (I think it is what they are made of more than anything).

They are constant worry aren't they???

Definitely agree you have to take some time to relax and give yourself time to get over the birth etc...no more rushing around!!

DH has gone of me since the birth, he has hardly touched me actually he totally loves are 2 DD and was amazing when dd1 arrived ive never felt so loved in my life!! but its been the opposite since DD2 came altho hes totally in love with her luckily. Im not sure whats going on with him hes not being unkind just aloof with me and i spend my a lot of my time trying not to cry in front of him.

Anyway this is the breastfeeding section not the "everyone feel sorry for sweetbean section" so i will stop waffling

Thanks for all you help i realy do feel so much better.im just so relieved that she will be ok!!

pmsl at 'everyone feel sorry for sweetbean section' .

Your DH's reaction this time round sounds quite normal IME - I think they take some time to adjust to things (I think second time around can be worse as they know how hard it can be by then). Give it some time. Maybe he can tell you are feeling upset but holding it in and he doesn't know what to do to help you?????

First days are hard, it gets easier - get those cuddles in while she is tiny coz they grow up too fast.... sod the food shopping!

sweetbean · 09/06/2008 21:42

BBM Thanks babe xxxxxxxxxxx

My breastpads used to smell bad all the time in the early days it's fine...

callmeovercautious · 09/06/2008 23:24

Hormones are Sh*t.

DH will be on tenter hooks I suspect - waiting for the crying and sleep deprevation. He knows what it was like last time and unlike you probably remembers much better. My DP remembers things I don't.

6 days is very young so please try and calm down, rest, get in bed with DD2 and feed her. Sod the bottles they are more work. If you want to mix feed do it later when you are over the worst of the early days. I found sterilising a nightmare, I put our Microwave one in with no water and almost burnt the house down It was direct Boobie from then on in Definately the lazy option for me.

Sweetbean, hope you are totally confident you have not done anything wrong or harmful in any way whatsoever!

What a shame you had to go to the supermarket and fe;t so under pressure...that's a job for anyone but a new mum.

You need to know that bf twice a day will not work though - sorry to be so clear about this! This is nowhere near enough to build up a milk supply - your milk will go, and though you say it works for you, it won't for long. Twice a day at 6 days will mean you will soon have no option but to use formula all the time, and if that is not what you want then you do need to know! Perhaps your midwife will confirm this....and post here if you want more info!
