4 month old only feeding 5 mins every 3 hours - is this ok?

I am BF and up until recently my 4 month old DS would feed 10 mins each side every 3 hours. The last day though he will only feed for 5 mins or less and then pull away and refuse anymore. He seems fine and happy apart from this.

I'm now worried he's not getting enough - cause for concern or is he maybe just sucking harder and getting his fill in a shorter time?

TIA

Sorry that should be 10 mins on one side only at each feed...

does he seem fine between feeds? if so i wouldn't worry, both mine did this, MW & HV said i must have had a fast let-down... i had -chubby- healthy weight babies and no complaints. I used to feed on demand (so averaging 3-4hrs between feeds) and would offer one side each feed and both just before bed to feed them up!!

His weight is fine, tailed off a little but HV said that was normal for BF baby at this stage.

I'm struggling to tell how his nappies are with regards to how wet as I have just switched to cloth nappies so changing more frequently and finding it hard to tell how wet they actually are but they def are always at least a little wet. He has a poo most days but hasn't for the past day or two.

I don't always offer both sides now as he's never taken the other side but I guess I probably should start trying that again.

He does seem quite content between feeds so hopefully thats a good sign...!?

Lucy, everyone else is asking sensible questions so do pay attention to those

I just wanted to tell you my ds was exactly the same. Don't worry about the other side if he's never taken it (mine didn't either) - they become more efficient at taking milk so the feeds do get shorter.

ds did 5mins every 3hrs until he was about 7-8m, from memory, then he got down to 3-minute feeds! Now at 13m he's taking longer again but I think that's because he's decided he likes it!

Thanks for the advice and reassurance - not sure where I'd be without MN....
