4 month old not done a poo in 2 days

Hi,
My 4 month old has consistently pooed 4 or 5 times a day since birth but now she hasn’t done one since Sunday evening ( it’s now Wednesday morning) and I’m wondering when I should worry.
She’s exclusively breastfed and generally seems happy in herself other than when at regular intervals throughout the day she decides she wants to push and grunts and complains. She feeds as normal, passes gas and sleeps well - waking only once in the night.
I heard this can be normal but I’ve never experienced it before, this is my second baby.
Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated !
thanks !

DS was BF. He didn’t poo for a month once. The health visitor said not to worry so long as he wasn’t uncomfortable.

Oh wow @MinnieMountain - how old was he ? Was he also a bit grumpy at times or not at all?
I think she’s mostly happy but does seems uncomfortable at times - like she’s trying to push something out but can’t.

Definitely make a gp appointment it can be normal but little girl was pooing regularly and they prescribed laxido which definitely helped

Once out of the initial newborn stage both my BF DC started only going every 3 days. But I do recall a couple of occasions where it was longer than that, 5 or so days, and it was usually as soon as I had the thought of whether I should contact the GP/health visitor to check they were ok that they had a massive blowout!

Record was 10days for my DD (EBF) when she was around 3 months I think. I was quite concerned but my HV said it’s very common as there is such little waste in breast milk

If it’s unusual get it checked out.

4-5 months OP. He was completely fine. It was DH and me on edge after 2 weeks as to when he’d do his massive poo.

He wasn’t trying to push something out during that time though, so I’d speak to someone about your DD.

Thanks all for the replies!
I’ve taken her to the GP today and they’ve suggested to monitor until Friday as she seems well and they see no reasons to be concerned. They’ve prescribed some lactulose which they said I can try if she hasn’t gone by Friday.
No idea what to make of it though. Could a breastfed baby really be constipated even if she hasn’t started solids yet ?

Thats what they prescribed my daughter first but she was due to solids and now is on laxido. Its hard to say if little one is having long feeds then its unlikely but i think it all depends if shes getting the “fatty” parts of the breastmilk

I would try a few warm baths/warm flannel on tummy, keep her legs moving and keep feeding. It's very common for periods of changes to bowel habits. She might be changing into the next phase where he poo schedule will change, she might feed more or less at a time etc.

BFing doesn't create perfectly stable poos, it fluctuates as much as anything else.

She finally did it ! After 7 days! I didn’t give her anything. It was a perfectly normal soft poo. Thanks everyone for your help !
since then she’s gone every day so far. We will see how things progress. The consistency has changed though, it’s less thin than it was but still soft.
