What is wrong with my baby 🥺

Baby boy is 7 weeks old, the last 2 days he keeps stiffening his legs when it comes to feeding time and wailing crying when I take the bottle away to burp him. He is a hungry baby so drinking the bottle isn’t an issue. He could have 5oz every 3.5 to 4 hours during the day. He has silent reflux and is on omeprozole to ease the acid in his stomach. Switched from SMA lactose free with Gaviscon sachets in every bottle to a SMA comfort formula for colic a few days ago as recommended by consultant in paediatrics. He seems to be regurgitating more on the new formula. He slept 8 hours after his last bottle and was still regurgitating that bottle when he woke for his next feed (I know 8 hours is a long stretch for a newborn, it’s his nightly routine since he was born, he simply won’t wake for feeds - he drinks enough during the day)
Been to the paediatric assessment unit 3 times to get his reflux sorted only to be told he will grow out of it and I was given a leaflet on purple crying!! He is gaining weight so no one seems to be concerned. Currently nearly 13lbs. Has anyone else experienced this?

@BunnyRuddington I asked the 3 consultants we’ve seen and they said he does not have it as he has no rash only baby acne and his poos aren’t as they would be if he did have it..

Since it coincides with the change in formula I'd say that was causing it

My 7 week old is doing this right now but she’s breastfed.
She’s feeding well but some time between 5pm and 9pm she does the whole arched back/ straight legs/ crying routine.
She’s gaining weight and is super smiley so I’m rolling with it.
My 7 week old slept 8 hours last night, it was delightful 😂

I’m afraid I would have to question what the Consultants have said to you.

There are two types of allergy. Ige which gives immediate symptoms and non-Ige which has less severe symptoms and can take up to 72 hours to appear.

A rash won’t always be present, especially if your LO has non-Ige CMPA.

Have a read of the article I linked to from
Allergy UK further up the thread and see if any of the symptoms sound familiar.

If they do, i would go to the GP tomorrow with the article and ask for a formula suitable for babies with CMPA and a referral to a Paediatric Dietitian. If you’re lucky, you might get to see the Dietitian before you start to wean Smile
