Baby biting and pulling while nursing

my baby is 1 on sunday and over the past few days has started biting and pulling on my nipple while nursing, it's not just once or twice during a feed it's constant like he will suck maybe once or twice then clamp down and pull on my nipple. he's honestly biting more than feeding. My nipples are so sore. He has no teeth coming in and he is grinning while doing it and then if I have any reaction he laughs. He wants to breastfeed and uses it as comfort but now spends most of the time doing this, we have good feeds where I think it's over but this evening was the worse it's ever been and I lost my cool with him. I had to put him in his cot and walk away. I know he's not being naughty (I hate that word) and that he's likely just exploring but seeing him smiling and laughing while it's causing me so much pain I find to be a massive trigger. I don't know what to do, i'm trying to tone down my reactions because he seems to LOVE the reaction but it's so hard not to have any reaction at all. I'm not ready for this to be the end of our breastfeeding journey but if he carries on like this it may have to be.

Any tips? what do I do? I feel like a terrible mum for loosing my cool but it was literally maybe 15 times within a couple minutes and grinning the entire time.

It’s so hard. I always heard that you shouldn’t react just remove them. And they’ll learn that the biting isn’t fun.
atm it’s just a fun game you’re playing together.
try to make sure the latch is good, and if he starts to move off ready to bite, be ready to pull away quickly!

Obviously you know he doesn’t understand it’s hurting you, but I know that doesn’t help in the moment.

One thing that some Mums find helpful is to feed lying down. Apparently they find it harder to bite.

Is he having any pain relief for his teething?
