Sorry, not sure where to post this as it is about ff and I realise most of you are all avid bfers. ( I admire the lot of you btw!) I have posted a similar thread a week or so ago but i'm really wanting more opnions if I can!

Anyway, my dd is 21 wks this friday and is beginning to slow down on her formula intake. I have been making up 8 oz bottles but something really weird is happening, she will have 7 on her morning feed at 7am ish then the 11am feed she happily guzzles on 5 and then doesnt want anymore like she actually isnt interested in it but still hungry!! Also, if we go out in public she is too busy nosing around at what is going on around her and I havn't a hope in hell of getting her to finish the bottle. Instinct is telling me she is bored with it and wants something else ie maybe solids.

Her weight gain is fine and when I spoke to HV about it the other day she said to start her on some baby rice which given the recent controversy of weaning I am reluctant to do (and she doesnt like it anyway!) My mum seems to think she is ready for 3 meals a day purely on the basis that the when has the 11am feed and the 3pm one she only has 4/5 oz's which together add to make a full bottle and then to add more confusion, on her night one before bed she guzzles on 9oz probably cos she knows she is gong to bed after bath etc!! But I can't help feeling like I am missing something and feel like a completley useless mum!

I am going back to work soon and I cannot bear the thought of her waking in the night again it fills me with dread tbqh! Anyone else experienced anything similar or have any suggestions comments?

sounds normal to me - I used to make up different sized bottles for daytime e.g. big ones for morning and bedtime and smaller ones for the middle feeds. Your lo could have had a growth spurt where she was extra hungry and is now getting back to normal. You cant expect her to have the same appetite for every milk feed so she is just taking as much as she wants/needs. It is good that she is regulating her feeding - I dont think it sounds like she needs solids if she is cutting back on milk though.

Thanks for that, I dont really think she is ready for solids anyway, just as well cant be doing with the hassle. I was just interested to know if it was normal. I make up the 8 because on some days she does get extra hungry and at least then its offered to her rather than draining the bottle and not having enough iyswim. As you can tell its my first so I am a bit of a thick mummy!!
