IV sedation and breastfeeding ??

pv3012 · 29/08/2025 18:50

Had a dental procedure today to extract a tooth under IV sedation with Midazolam and propofol.
I’m currently breastfeeding my 9 week old who refuses to take a bottle. I was told to refrain from breastfeeding for 12 hours but read elsewhere 4 hours should be fine.
has anybody had any experience with this ? I’m getting desperate as my baby will just cry and not drink from the bottle or cup or spoon. Please help!

I know you didn't have endoscopy but this mentions propofol as well!

Good luck!

You could try a capped syringe and just squirt it into her cheek, it triggers a swallowing reflect like saliva does....I learnt this when I had to give my baby epilepsy medication which tasted foul.
