Hey guys. I’m travelling with my 2 yo at weekend and it’s a flight that lands 11pm, my dd will want a night milk once we get to the hotel, before bed. I can’t keep normal refrigerated milk on a plane cold sooooooo I’m thinking for her night bottle UHT milk, just for that night so it makes my life easier! Just worried as she’s never had UHT milk and I don’t know how she’ll react to it? Or if she won’t notice a difference? Also will it upset her tummy? I don’t know much about the UHT milk as I’ve never had it myself.

sorry if wrong tpopic, wasn’t sure where to put it.

It won’t upset her stomach no. It does taste a bit different especially when it’s room temp if you’re used to milk being fridge cold so your best bet is to get it to whatever temperature she would normally have it. If that would normally be out of the fridge then depending on your flight time you could try freezing it so it defrosts on your journey and is still chilled at bedtime.

I found skimmed UHT tastes like normal semi-skimmed.

Can’t you just contact the hotel and ask them to leave some milk in your fridge for you for arrival? Explain why and I bet they’ll accommodate. Be much easier than lugging milk in your case.

Where are you going? Some countries tend to have mostly UHT milk, very little fresh cow milk.

Urgh. I can still remember how foul UHT milk tasted on family holidays as a young child, and my parents insisting it tasted the same. Foul stuff.

UHT milk isn't going to cause an issue with her stomach.
It does taste different tho, so she might reject it. Give it a go - it doesn't sound like her normal milk is feasible, and your suggestion sounds like an excellent compromise.

Thank you for all your replies.

We get to the hotel (in Spain) around 11:30pm so nipping to the shop before bed isn’t an option as it’s just me and her. I was going to pop some in her bottle ready and carry it on board with me and heat it up when I get to the hotel, they have a kettle in the room. As for a fridge they only have the coolers so not sure that’ll keep milk to the correct temp. All else fails I’ll ask the hotel bar/reception to help (I’m shy in asking). I am hoping she’s fast asleep with it being that late and will happily forget she has a bed time milk. I’m trying to get her out of the habit but it won’t budge yet.

Again thank you for the replies.
