Tired and fed up

DD is almost 10 months. At 7 months, she went through a phase of waking up half an hour after going to bed, and then hourly thereafter. Inconsolable without a bf, but DP could occasionally settle her with rocking. Fed her through it despite being exhausted and depressed, and she started sleeping up to 9-10 hours before a feed. But now she's started doing it again, but now when I put her down in the cot she's waking up, and I usually have to rock her again. She won't settle for DP anymore, in fact she screams blue murder until I come back and take her. She's very active, this week has started standing unaided and I don't think she's far away from walking. She eats quite a few solids but not massive amounts, and is BLWed.
Just wondered if anyone had any advice, or if I should just carry on as I have been. We cosleep at night, but I would like some time in the evening to relax and do housework without being constantly up and down the stairs. Thanks for reading!

I would wager that it's linked to her going through a major developmental spurt.

ds2 is 7 months and has never gone more than 2 hrs at night so I totally know how you feel, it's bloody horrible isn't it?

You have my sympathy, but no advise sorry, my dd is nearly 7 months and i'm up 4 times a night, its a nightmare, hope it doesn't last long

hi, not sure I can advise but my dd is 10 months and still bf, she bf 4 times a day now and I found she was getting thirsty so I give her plenty of water from a beaker and she loves it, just wondered if perhaps your dd was thirsty? Prob just that she is more aware of you now and really needs you to feel secure so wants you nearby.

Introduce a sleep routine if you haven't already, story, bath, milk, bed. Plus two hours of quiet time before bed.

DD went through this and it was a mixture of movement, teething, gastric pain (weaning can cause a great deal of wind and it can hurt), but we only realised this in retrospect.

She will grow out of it though. DD started having a water cup in her cot at about that age too and didn't ask for night feeds after a few days because she could just have a drink of water.

It's really tough though - I do completely empathise. DD is now 19 months, still breastfed and I'm in the final trimester of pregnancy - thankfully she now, mostly, sleeps through. It DOES get better

Thanks everyone for answering so quickly! DD has a bedtime routine which I try and stick to as much as possible. How would I do 2 hours of quiet time before bed? As she's always on the go wanting to get down and climb. She has a water cup with meals, but doesn't really drink much from it as yet.
She does seem to be on a major developmental spurt. She has also had 2 teeth since 6 months and no more since, so think teething could be part of it to. It's good to know other people are in the same boat, even though I wouldn't wish this on anyone! Thanks again!

Aha! May I suggest you try nurofen for children - works much quicker than Calpol and reduces swollen gums too which made a huge difference to us.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things, perhaps you are just going to have a difficult couple of weeks and it'll get better after that.

The best thing about them at this age is that however bloody irritating they are, they will change within 21 days (normally to find some more obscurely infuriating habit like biting the cat but hey it's progress ).

That's a coincidence, as I have just given her this before bed as well as a teething powder! So fingers crossed it may do the trick She only just gone to sleep as she has been refusing to nap, and ended up fallng asleep at 5. I would try and keep her awake then, but she's a nightmare overnight after only 1 nap.
I will be counting down 21 days now Last time she did this was when she started crawling, so I'm hoping she'll walk soon and it'll help. Broken nights I can deal with, but I want my evenings back! Thanks for your help.

Just an update: DD slept til 1.30am before waking for a feed, so she slept 3 hours. That doesn't sound like much, but it meant I could relax before bed so I feel a lot better today. Thanks!

I know what you mean about 3 hours, every now and again dd does that and its fab glad you're feeling better

Sorry wonderstuff, didn't see your reply until now. She actually went 5 hours last night which was even more amazing! Checked her mouth yesterday and all 4 of her top teeth are coming through at once so no wonder she couldn't sleep! It's when things like this happen that I'm glad I persevered through it and didn't deny her food. She obviously felt terrible! Fingers crossed she'll be a little bit better now.
