12 month old loosing weight

Hi everyone, my son was born happy and healthy at 8pounds, he was exclusively breastfed and gained weight really well and by five months old he was in age 9-12 clothes. Fast forward seven months and he’s still in 9-12 clothes. He’s still breastfed alongside a healthy diet, being offered all of the same foods as my toddler who is thriving. Whilst my son is reaching all milestones, and has just had a great one year review, it was concerning to us to see that he had lost weight. I thought it was because he’s so fast! He crawls off and away in a flash and will walk very quickly with some support from a hand or pushing a walker. I took him to be weighed again today and he has lost more weight, they told me try and offer food over breast milk and come back in four weeks. I’m concerned he’s loosing weight but also don’t know if I feel limiting breast milk is the answer. I try to feed him first and then offer milk but he often wants milk first and will refuse food until I feed him. Has anyone been in a similar position?

I don't know that limiting breastmilk is the answer.

Does he eat much?

My baby was 97th percentile then dropped percentiles after breastmilk was no longer main source of calories and vegan to crawl a lot.

Is he dropping percentiles still or is he maintaining a level now?

You say "they" - who are "they"? Many people involved with babies talk a lot of uninformed bs.

Breast milk is high calorie so he'll struggle to match it gram for gram with healthy baby options. I'd try and up the breast milk personally, and add in high fat snacks like avocado and cheese. Best of luck.

Mine did this, he was so active. Loads of breast milk, but after food.
high calorie foods like avocado, scrambled eggs with butter etc.

At 12 months, it should be food first. Include meats, oils, butter, lots of carbs (babies need LOTS of carbs). Also, their appetite goes down around 12 months, the growth slows a bit, so if you're still BF lots then it will be at the detriment of food. BF is a wonderful thing (I'm still BF my 11 month old) but at this age solid food is the priority.

Also, I read that there is a very big jump from 9-12 to 12-18 month clothes sizing. They need to be quite tall for 12-18 sizes so actually lots don't transition to 12-18 for a while, even if previously they were moving quickly to the next size.
