dd struggling while feeding on one side, any ideas what this could be?

dd (19 weeks) has started to wriggle around while feeding from my left breast. She will arch her back and push me away while keeping hold of my nipple in her mouth (ouch!) and is obviously hungry as she keeps coming back for more. I dont think this is wind as it is really easy to burp her afterwards, at first i thought it could be stomach pains, but she seems quite happy the minute she comes off my breast. She does have a tooth starting to appear on the bottom left of her mouth - could this be causing her pain while feeding?
I would be grateful for any advice on how to deal with this - don't want my left boob to explode!!

TIA

Hello my dd did the same always prefered the left boob and turned away from the right! Not sure why but positioning her under my armpit so she was still facing the same way helped - they call it the rugby balling or something equally glamorous! Did she have a traumatic birth as craniopathy might help (it helped a friend of mine who was having problems feeding and it transpired the baby was getting pain when she turned her head to one side). Try to express from the left side to keep the milk coming and stop you getting too full! Also maybe feeding whilst lying down might help? xXx

A cranial osteopath can treat any birth injury which is causing discomfort on one side.

It may just be a preference for one side over another or it might well be you have a blocked milk duct which is slowing down the flow. Have you tried the rugby hold (underarm) which can allow your DD to drain the breast very effectively with less effort?

hi,
both mine now aged 4 and 2, never liked my right breast. No history or anything. Both looked the same. Fed 1st from left side, it became significantly bigger than the other, but nothing too bad that a couple of breast pads couldn't sort.

2nd, tried harder but still preferred left.
My body made enough milk in the one breast to fill her up. Fed second til 6.5months.

So dont worry, if she prefers one side, dont stress yourself that you must alternate, I know i did with my first, i relaxed more with 2nd and just let her feed on her favourite.

Both back to the same size now.
