DS is 6 weeks old, excl. bf and has had no problems (touch wood!) but I've noticed the last few days he seems really irritable in the morning (about 5ish) and has bellyache, plus really dark green poo, like pesto.

His poo is normally the mustardy type colour the rest of the day though.

Have read a few things and it suggests he is not 'getting enough hindmilk'. We co-sleep so he takes small feeds often at night, but knowing how fore/hindmilk works (surely lots of small feeds foten would be the milk akin to 'warm' in the tap analogy??)I'd have thought he was getting plenty and am a bit as to what's happening.

Any ideas?

Has he just had his 6 week growth spurt? I know after DD's I had an oversupply that caused her to have green poos as well as spluttering and choking at letdown. I did a bit of block feeding and it settled down in a few weeks. Could it be that?

Squalor - it doesn't matter. Pesto/green stools are on the normal spectrum. Prob all babies have them occaasionally, and some all the time. In a thriving baby, it matters not one jot

In a non-thriving baby it might mean the baby needs help to get more milk, but in other babies, it may be no more than a sign of temporary 'intestinal hurry' - possibly as part of fighting off a gastro bug. It gets fought off, baby is fine, end of story.

Thanks tiktok, he does seem like he may have a bit of a tummy bug actually.

Charchar no noticeable growth spurt as yet, or at least not in comparison to DS1's growth spurt!

Well DD's growth spurt was unmissable at 6 weeks, I was chained to the couch for 5 days! Probably he just has a bit of an upset tummy then, poor baby. Hope he is ok
