What do you love about bfing? (a postive thread for all those struggling at the moment)

Something Thomcat just said on another thread made me think of my DD bfing. She said she gives her DD a taggie to stop her feeling exposed after snuggling and bfing. It made think of my DD when she falls asleep at the breast, face smooshed right in so you can't imagine that she can breathe, it's so cute.

And when she feeds and comes of and has a quick "chat" with me or whoever else is around, then goes back. The way she throws herself at the breast when she is very hungry.

What do you love about breastfeeding? I just wanted to start a thread so that all the mums struggling to do it at the moment have something nice to look forward to.

I love the drunken milk smile in the middle of the feed before he piles back on.
I like to think that my body and baby are working together and it just feels right, the relief of the let down and then his satisfied little face.

I also quite like the fact that I am now half a stone lighter than I was before I got pregnant...

I love the fact that it gives me a few occasions during the day when I have a very good reason to sit down, have a cup of tea and watch telly or something. The best one is the before bedtime feed when I can escape the madness of bath time and reading to the older DSs and lie on my bed with DS3, listening to the Archers

i think its funny when someone comes up to you to chat and see the baby and eventually realises they are bf'ing. the bit that makes me laugh is the majority reaction where they sort of talk without breathing, usually nonsense and scan the horizon for ways to escape. once flesh is safely reharnessed, they are usually very supportive and chatty again

i also love the ease, in the darkest sleepiest moments, if i really can't sit up i just drag him from bedside cot and lob a lazy boob out and drift back off.

it's a really long hug.
i look at her and think that i have literally grown her.
her little hands stroking me as she feeds.
when she stops for a bit and looks up and smiles at me.

The adoring eyes looking up at me, how gently she strokes my belly as she eats. And yes the 30 pound weight loss didn't hurt

Despite him being very annoying at the moment, duffing me up, pulling off abruptly, pulling at my clothing and glasses, I still love how snuggly he is when ds is feeding, I love stroking his soft hair, and the way he looks up at me with those big blue eyes. Oh and the milk drunk look!

I love the closeness, the one to one time.
And that i can actually take her back from MIL when she's had hold of her for way too long for a good reason.
love the way she smiles at me halfway through, the way she has her hand on me as if she's kneading my boob for milk.

Love the fact that i'm giving my DD a good start.

do find it funny when i'm getting dressed and her eyes light up when she sees her 'milk jugs' as DH calls them.

Wherever we are, whatever we're doing, I can give my child a meal or a drink without even having to think about where to get water, sterilising etc.

I have a very practical reason to love breastfeeding: I had to rush my dd (2.1) to A&E last week. We were there for 12 hours. I had my 3-week old ds with me. Not once did I have to worry about him as I had an endless supply of perfect milk for him, no faffing - just bung him on the boob and concentrate on dd.

the relief on their faces when they start feeding.

The night feed, when it's dark and all you can hear is a snuffling noise.

I loved the way I could give them exactly what they needed, as my breastmilk was perfect for them.

I loved the cuddles, the way they would snuggle in to me and be so close.

I loved how it was so convenient - I am naturally bone idle and bf'ing was so much easier than bottlefeeding. Like Martini - any time, any place, anywhere...

Ooh gosh you lot are so romantic. I am 3 days in with DD (DC3) and I love:

the fact that I don't have to bother with thinking about having enough milk ready
the fact I can sit and watch Countdown whilst DH and MIL make the dinner

(which is a good job as it really hurts)

Molly have you had your latch checked? It shouldn't really hurt if you are positioned correctly (as a general rule anyway).

pulls off mid feed, grins cheekily, shakes his head no and then jumps back on.

then pulls off and pokes at my nipple for a bit, grins and hops back on.

tucks his thumb into my belly button when he's finished stroking my boobs and belly while getting sleepy

sits on lap and snuggles into them when he's feeling poorly

just had a sick poorly tummy bug and i love knowing that milk was the only thing he was interested in eating and able to keep down

selfishly, getting the chance to snuggle my busy little toddler !! cos he's not interested in cuddles anymore now

One of the most fabulous things about breastfeeding, that I really don't think is stressed often enough, is the fact that you can comfort your child in seconds, no matter what is wrong. If she wakes up in the night she latches on, no crying, and falls asleep (no walking round at 2 am with a crying baby), if she hurts herself she suckles for comfort, and is calm instantly. I am far too lazy to be pacing the house with a crying baby!

oh yes cazee and if you teach them to sign, they can tell you instantly that they want the comfort - plus it's soooo cute when they sit desperately signing for milk !!!

Yes, puffylovett, I have taught her to sign, and I don't think there are words to describe how you feel when your baby first signs that they want milkies!
She can say a few words now, (including for some reason, spongebob and guitar), but she still signs for milkies. What is lovely is that while she is feeding she often catches my gaze and signs milkies.

At the minute DD points at my bump, says 'baby', then points at my boob and yells 'booby' then starts kissing me and saying 'booby please'. It's very endearing.

yay cazee, DS does that too !!! and sometimes he breaks off and says 'Mil' too which is just so darn endearing

Hmm think i might have to teach him how to say 'bitty' though seeing as my entire family reckon I'll still be feeding him when he's twelve !!!!
