CMPA neocate help

Looking for some reassurance. My little one is 10 weeks, she since about 4 weeks has struggled with gas, constipation, reflux, eczema and constant crying. She was switched to nutramigen at 6 weeks and her rash immediately disappeared, but after around a week all her gastro symptoms returned. She was waking herself up with screams and was in so much pain. The GP prescribed neocate 3 days ago and we made a direct switch. Since then her gas has been awful and she has gone 2 days without a poo. She is crying all day and is so distressed, please tell me this gets better, I had to really push for the neocate and now I feel like maybe I made a mistake.

We went onto Neocate after a lot of pushing but it didn’t work out. All the symptoms you described - reflux, wind and bad skin. Seeing your baby in constant discomfort is very distressing.

We switched to SMA anti reflux combined with SMA lactose free (equal scoops half & half). Baby settled pretty much straight away.

If your baby has been properly diagnosed with CMPA then don’t try this formula combo but if you’ve been put onto Neocate as a ‘try it and see’ approach, trust your own instincts and switch to something else if it’s not working.

This won’t be forever and things will improve over the coming weeks. The worry starts wearing you down as does the lack of sleep but you will come out the other side, I promise!

We had this but I think it was because the nutramigen formula is so thin. We switched but then switched back with an added carobel sachet to thicken it up. Worked a treat, could be an option you for you.

it will pass but it’s brutal for all of you especially baby!! Hold on in there you are all doing great x

Neocate was a game changer for our little boy, did take around a week maybe more to regulate his poo’s and gas, i remember the peads telling us it takes a good 72 hours to get into the system properly anyway.
Hope it’s working for you now!
